Hi I was training for a half marathon when 2.5 weeks ago I suddenly felt a pain in the left leg lateral side of my ankle. My doctor diagnosed a peroneal tendinitis. Since it is impossible to run because as soon as I try it I feel pain. I started to do stretching exercises which I found in the Internet for the peroneal tendon, rest, pain medication. It seems to help I no longer fell pain when I walk or press in the region of the tendons and it is not swollen anymore. But as soon as I try running the pain comes back. I would be really happy if someone could give me a tip or advice what I can do to improve and no longer fell the pain when I try to run. How long can it take till the symptoms vanish. Does it help to wear a ankle brace (airsports brace?) etc. Thanks for reading my message and your help mompfi

It can take 3-4 weeks or more for the tendon to heal, depending on the severity of the injury. I would suggest that you continue resting your ankle for a few weeks before you begin running again. You may also want to try applying ice to the injury for 15-20 minutes 1-2 times/day. I would also suggest doing some ankle strengthening and balance exercises because strengthening the muscles around your ankle will decrease the stress on the peroneal tendon.
