yesterday while playing football I felt a muscle pain just above the ankle. I continued playing but was hurting a bit. Today it still hurts while I am walking or when I massage it but it feels ok when I am sitting and when I stretch it to a point. The Gastronemius doesn't hurt all together just the lower part of it but the soleus hurts.
1. Is this a serious injury? 2. How long will it take for it to recover? 3. What will speed up my recovery? 4. Is this a grade 1 grade 2 or grade 3 calf injury?

Although it is difficult to diagnose over the internet, and this information should not take the place of face to face evaluation by a health professional, here is what the injury sounds like based on what you have said.
This sounds like a low grade achilles strain. Signs that it could be more severe and should definitely be evaluated by a health professional include (but not limited to) not being able to walk without a limp, Inability to do 10 calf/heel raises, a progressive increase in symptoms instead of improvement, pain with palpation of any bone, or deformity upon palpation of the achilles tendon. If you are able to walk and even do light jogging at this point without limping or increasing pain, I would be leaning toward a grade 1 strain. Depending on the severity you should be able to get back into full play gradually over the next 10-14 days. A few days of rest and ice will tell you a lot on how long it will take you to recover.
Since it has been a couple of days since you posted this I'm guessing you can already track how you have improved. If it is significantly better you are on the right path. If it has not improved or only slightly improved you should see a health professional for further evaluation.
Again, there are a lot of things this could be. There is no way it can be properly diagnosed without a face to face examination. This commentary is based on the facts you have presented, but is not complete until a face to face evaluation can be performed.
I think you are right....its achilles tendon injury...tennis leg...
1. If I had no swelling/bruising does this mean it was grade 1? 2. After 7 days it still hurts when I walk with my work shoes (suit shoes) but when I wear athletic/sports shoes I don't feel pain. Why is that? 3. Should I just rest it or is there anything more I could do to help it heal?

Your injury sounds like a stress fracture and will likely keep you off the roads for about six weeks, and depending on the severity of the stress fracture you may need a cast. Don't screw around with this, it's a serious injury. So, go see a doctor first.
