Could be a good muscle strain. Since you heard a pop, you should get it checked out by a doctor. Depending on the severity (if it is a strain) will determine the course of action on treatment and what to expect in recovery time. If it a lower grade strain, you should feel improved in a few days. If it is a higher grade could take much longer and more in depth treatment. Better to know what you are dealing with. Keep up with the cold therapy and anti-inflammatory in the mean time. Look into these cold compression wraps for the leg. Much better than ice. www.kingbrand.com/Leg-Ice-Packs-and-wraps.php?REF=34PV18.278

While the differential diagnosis can vary depending on the presentation, I would agree that your best move would have a complete history and physical exam taken by a physician. The popping sensation is a concern for a possible tear but if it continues to pop then less so. That is why getting a detailed history and presentation of the injury is important.
If you would like the recommendation of a sports medicine doctor, let me know what city you live near.
