My son is a college pitcher going into his Senior year. He was pitching in a college league and felt a pop. He had an MRI and was diagnosed with a full tear of the UCL and told he needed surgery. That was the doctor the team sent him to in another state. He came home today but I don’t even know where to start and who to take him to. How do we go about choosing the correct surgeon? Thanks

Sharon, Sorry for the delay in my response, as I've been out of town. Three excellent sports doctors near you for UCL injuries are James Paci, MD, Eric Keefer, MD, and Criag Levitz, MD. Of course there are several other excellent choices in Manhattan, such as Chris Ahmad, MD, and David Altchek, MD. Feel free to mention my name to any of these. Also, I will be back in the office as of this Thursday. Feel free to email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or call (205-918-2139) me once I am back.
Thank you. We actually just met with Dr. Ahmad today and scheduled surgery with him. He’s hoping that since my son tore the ucl from the bone that he will be able to do a repair if the ligament is in good shape, if not he will do Tommy John. Hoping for the best. Thanks for your response.
