Hello. I am a 35yo (female) weight lifter. Tonight after going to the gym I noticed that my left knee cracks when I squat down. It doesn't hurt, and so according to this link: sportsmedicine.about.com/cs/injuries/a/aa092500.htm I shouldn't worry too much but maybe I should consider doing "conditioning exercises". I'm wondering what conditioning exercises would be right for my situation?
My normal Sunday gym routine involves two movements that move the leg:
1. I run at 4mph for 25 min (yes I know, very slow). I've been running like this, I like to think with a fairly light tread, for about 10 years.
2. I squatted 3 sets of 6 reps at 95 lbs, which isn't really a heavy weight for me (it's my light day, on heavy days I'm up to about 115 lbs). I've also done squats for a few years without problems.
I don't know which of these two might have caused the popping (dunno, maybe both or maybe I just need new running shoes).
Any thought on what conditioning exercises might help and what might have caused this? I'd prefer to still be doing awesome squats when I'm 90, so I'd like to prevent injuries whenever possible.
