I am interested in recommendations of the bestphysicians and treatments for treatment ofstress fractures of the pedicle and pars in a young man caused by javelin throwing. I am most interested for recommendations in the New York/New Jersey/Philadelphia area.
I just became aware of your reply for the first time today--I guess I don't really know how to use the site. My son's diagonosis was by a surgeon and an orthopedist. My understanding is that one fracture has healed, but that there is a lot of swelling on one side. My concern is that he is a young man -- not quite 20--and in constant pain. Surgery was not recommended. Do you have any thoughts?

Take your son to see a physiatrist. This type of medical doctor will look first for non-surgical answers for back problems, such as rehab exercises. To learn more about this field or find a physiatrist in your area, go to the association's website: www.physiatry.org/Field_Find_Physiatrist.cfm
If he/she decides it needs surgery, he/she will recommend you see the surgeon orthopedist.
