Hi everyone I am a college level swimmer and I have been having some bizarre pain in my shin for the last 2 weeks. The pain occurs on my down kick while doing either flutter kick or dolphin kick. It has also been hurting me occasionally when I walk around and when I point my toe. There is some minor swelling in the area of pain as well. The pain itself is on the outside of my left leg between the fibula and tibia, more so towards my fibula, about 3 inches above my ankle. The pain is sharp and runs a narrow line about an inch long. The pain is moderately deep. I've been pulling and not doing any kick in practice the last two weeks and it still is getting irritated. I've been doing ice and ibuprofen as well as some rehabilitation shin exercises, and there really hasn't been any improvement, any ideas anyone?
Hey - your pain sounds similar to mine, I just posted a little earlier today. Read my post "lower leg pain - soccer" and see if you have any of the other symptoms I have. I figure the down kick (I'm assuming you point your toes and there is water resistance) is similar to kicking a soccer ball with the laces.
I have not replies yet, but hoping someone can get back to me.
