Recently I have been doing reading in a book I just bought on strength and conditioning. After reading about bio-energetic specificity it was clear to me that depending on the athlete's conditioning the glycolytic system is initiated around 20 seconds and slowly evolves from a fast glycolysis to a slower glycolysis / oxidative metabolism.
My question is during HIIT. If someone were to do an interval training that was set up for a 1:1 ratio, 1 min work and 1 minute rest, deemed as oxidative by the bio-energetic characteristics, would I be training the oxidative metabolism mainly and be also training the glycolyitic system as well? And if so would the energy being used mostly carbohydrates since the duration is still in glycolysis metabolism?
