5 weeks ago I hurt my arm throwing at my son's baseball practice. Felt a slight pull in tricep area but kept throwing . Some pain when I threw but not too bad in between throws. Went to orthopedic dr week later and diagnosed with tendonitis. Prescribed naproxen . Not much improvement so went back And told to rest and take aleve for 10 days. 2 weeks later and maybe very slight improvement but sore today. It's an achy type pain in bicep, tricep fine. Nothing sharp and not constant. No elbow or shoulder discomfort. No mri but doc checked shoulder elbow etc. Assured me nothing serious and said definitely no tear and no surgery. But it's been 5 weeks and I am terrified I won't be able to pitch bp this winter and killing me I can't play catch with my kid. How long can this last? I am in my mid 40s and granted I overdid It that night but given the lack of Sharp pain and talking to the dr I am trying not to worry but it's tough.
Anyone experience this?
The pain is in the outer portion of the bicep

stormy, The doc you've seen is an orthopedist, but doesn't seemed to be specialized in sports medicine. I recommend you get a second opinion from one of the doctors below. Feel free to let him know I recommended him for you. Good luck. Let us know what happens.

Agreed in getting a second opinion. You will know how to better go about treating when you know what you are dealing with. If there is no tear that is great, may be tendonitis, may be a muscle strain, and recovery time will vary. Look into a good cold compression wrap to keep the inflammation down. This will enable your blood to flow through more freely. Blood flow stimulation treatment is also great for tendonitis as it helps heal those tissues and speeds up your recovery time. Worth a look into. They will be a great advantage when used before pitching bp as to help not re injure the area. Always remember to get cold on there after activity and anytime you are in more pain than normal. Good luck. I hope you find an answer and interested to see how your recovery goes. I got a 2nd opinion (with one of the recommended drs. associates - just couldn't work it out with the others) diagnosed with a rotator cuff strain- was told would probably heal w/ more rest but some rehab would be good idea so i start next week. Mind won't be totally at ease until there is no pain and i can throw again but looks like the rotator cuff is strong based on the tests so hopefully i will be okay in a few months. Assuming i recover i will be much more cautious in the future- have about 7 more yrs til i am done pitching bp! (i hope)

UPDATE Condition hasn't changed- going for MRI ,Xray later this week. Dr. still thinks rotator cuff probable cause- No sharp pain, no issue with range of motion but some weakness lifting arm straight up and some discomfort when typing & using mouse sometimes. 3 months of rest & month of PT & still not right -kind of have a bad feeling this is not going to turn out well but at least i should know what i am dealing with by next week.
Well so much for the MRI- didn't think i was klaustrophobic but within 30 seconds i broke into a heavy sweat and felt horrible. For now i am going to continue my rehab excercises and pray for the best. Maybe no more throwing anytime soon(if at all) but besides some dull pains and weakness in bicep tricep area when i am on the computer too long my day to day activities are bearable and things haven't gotten worse. Of course down the road i probably will need to figure out whats going on.
