Son is presently 14 1/2 Background: Early May 2016, MRI showed sprained UCL. PT and shut down until July 8 when he began a throwing program. Arm felt fine and velocity was good by September. Pitched in mid-October and had some pain (front of shoulder) afterward. Camp in early November, same pain. Shut him down but did not go to Doc. Started throwing again in mid- late-December. Some pain, but as he ramped up in January, shoulder hurt more so we went to the Doc on Jan 16. MRI arthrogram showed slight surface tears ('signals') to labrum and supraspinatus. PRP and PT. Cleared to start throwing program on February 23. Also started CrossoverSymmetry about this time. Worked up to throwing 175' with a slight arc by March 7 or 8.
Current Problem: Last Wednesday, March 8, he jumped in during an intra-squad scrimmage to play SS. Made an off-balance throw on a slow roller and immediately felt sharp shoulder pain. However, this time, the pain is in the lateral deltoid area. Did not throw for a few days, but began some short throws on Monday, March 13 and continued for the next few days. March 17, made a total of 50 throws from 30' to 100'. Shoulder was fine, then he did some light work around the house carrying items that were light to moderately heavy. Then he said that he feels a dull, aching pain (contrasted with sharp pain of March 8) in the lateral deltoid.
Continue light throwing? Any guidance on expected duration of aching deltoid would be appreciated.
