My 12yo son complained about mild pain in his medial elbow/forearm 8 days ago after practice. The pain was not sharp and only occurred at the end of the practice. Was expecting it to be ok based on his attitude about it, as he didn't complain much.
I say elbow / forearm because I am not exactly sure - immediately after practice he seemed to point to the elbow joint itself and next day and ever since, he points to a spot a few inches away towards the wrist in the "meaty" part of the forearm muscles.
I shut him down completely for 8 days, missing practices. The pain was only felt a few times during the past week - when he laid in bed and put his arm out flat and bent at the elbow. Pain free for the past 2-3 days so we went out to toss today to see where it's at. Full dynamic warmup and stretches with j-bands, then a throwing progression to build up to throwing. He didn't make it to 50 feet before complaining of the same pain in the forearm a few inches from the elbow...
He was able to hit today, no pain at all.
I am thinking of shutting him down for at least two more weeks, then trying again. If pain returns take him to be evaluated.
Any thoughts on what we could be dealing with here? Is my plan sound, or should I not wait? Should he do nothing at all? Ok to hit? Band exercises?
